LABOUR may have lost some of its majority but it has retained control of all seats in Doncaster during the 2010 General Election. Rosie Winterton polled 16,569 to retain her Doncaster Central seat while Labour’s Ed Miliband held on to his Doncaster North seat, with 19,637 votes and Caroline Flint polled 16,472 to retain her Don Valley seat.
Local election results:
LABOUR was the big winner in Doncaster’s local elections gaining eight seats from its rivals. The result will be enough for Labour to gain overall control of the council for the first time since 2003. Labour gained five seats from the Alliance of Independent Members group, two from the Liberal Democrats and one from the Community Group. Garth Oxby, leader of the Alliance of Independent Members, and group colleague Tony Brown are among the big name casualties to have lost their seats in Balby and Armthorpe respectively. Former mayoral candidate and Group Deputy Mick Maye lost his Edenthorpe seat.
