Grants up for grabs to help local people

Doncaster residents are being invited to apply for grants to help them improve their lives by the town’s New Deal for Communities (NDC). Residents of Doncaster’s New Deal for Communities (NDC) area (Nether Hall, Balby Bridge, Hyde Park, Hexthorpe and Balby Woodfield) can apply for up to £500 to help them take advantage of a one-off opportunity that will greatly benefit themselves or their families.

Chris Brewster, chair of the Hyde Park Partnership and a Director of the Trust, said: “These grants can make a real difference to people in Doncaster. “We are looking for people to apply for grants to help them buy equipment or membership fees or to pursue a special talent or skill.

“We also want to help residents who are looking to become self employed or need help with expenses for overseas volunteering opportunity or scholarships. In the past we’ve provided grants to help people reduce the cost of furthering their education, by paying for tuition fees, books, travel costs and childcare.  Other expenses have included grants for IT equipment to enable a resident suffering from a limiting illness to join support groups, manage personal affairs and keep in touch with friends, and a greenhouse to help a family pursue a healthy hobby. This really is the last chance that this fund will be available via NDC in Doncaster and we hope that people will take up this opportunity.”

All applications will be considered providing the applicant shows a genuine need for the award and how it will benefit the resident or their family. Eligible applicants must be able to show they have lived in the NDC area for over 12 months and the application must be for one-off, extraordinary expenses rather than everyday living costs.

NDC impact includes:  4th best reduction of economic deprivation, of all NDCs; well over 1000 people into jobs, GCSE attainment up by 27%; many residents feel safer, healthier and that the area has got better as a place to live, since 2002.
